Album of the Week, vol. 4

Album of the Week, vol. 4

Izaac Williams, Writer

This week, our album is taking a turn from Earl Sweatshirt’s LP Some Rap Songs, to the underground producer Chasay and his collage album Please Pray For Me. In this beautiful, soulful, and unique album each and every song has it’s own unique aspect from the soul samples, to each rapper’s verse. My personal favorite songs are “DOESITRLLYMATTER” featuring another underground rapper called Dis who has a beautiful flow that mends perfectly with this soulful beat. Another favorite of mine is the next track titled “what2say (interlude)”, being and interlude there is no rapping as well as no lyrics besides the beautiful soul sample that gives a feeling of coldness but at the exact same time warmth and I absolutely love it. The next track that stands out to me is “breathe.in.try.to.breathe.outact2” which is the second volume of Chase’s single “breathe.in.try.to.breathe.outact1” which is an amazing and nearly perfect beat collage that you should 100% listen to if you enjoy this album. This track features Xerces, a solid rapper who spits over the beat with a fast pace over the soul sample and they tie together in a perfect manner. But, out of each track my absolute favorite is the outro titled, “exhale.”

In this beautiful track it is controversially not a likable track as it is just three loops, but in my opinion these three loops put together create a beautiful piece of art, there is no rapping, only singing from the beautiful sample and it conveys intense sadness, emotion, and being alone. In the end this is such a solid album, I give it a very strong 8/10, everything goes together amazingly, the beats, the rapping, and each artist. But I just feel as if the album could get a little bit better and in his latest work Chasay has shown this, Chasay is a great producer with a very bright future and I can not wait for his next projects. I hope you enjoyed this weeks album and if you did please come back next week for another volume!
