Village Properties is a real estate agency in Santa Barbara that gives support to nonprofit organizations.
While Renee Grubb, the co-founder, was trying to find an organization to focus on, she made a meeting with a child that went to Brandon School in Goleta, Santa Barbra. The child’s parents gave Renne a list of classroom needs, this made Renne wonder how parents of multiple kids could afford all this.
Grubb was inspired and had a meeting with staff members, trying to figure out ways to support the students and teachers in Santa Barbara County. Grubb made a committee with the former Santa Barbra mayor, Rep. Lois Capps, and Larry Crandell.
With the help of one another they pleaded $25,000 to private and public elementary schools. They wanted to get workbooks, cameras, reading materials, area rugs, art supplies, and storage bins.
They named this The Teacher’s Fund, it expanded to junior highs and high schools as well. The fund now helps 51 on the South Coast. For 2022-2023 the total amount raised was $137,524, this fund has helped an estimated amount of 7,000 students.
This article interested me because a lot of teachers, especially smaller communities don’t get as much credit or support as they need. People don’t tend to see that teachers are the backbone of education for our future generation. And knowing how this can benefit the students later in life is great, knowing good differences are being made all is motivation to keep going.
I like the amount of links you find in this article. It helps my curiosity in case I want to further research The Teacher’s Fund. The quotes are nice and the amount of information and backstory is satisfying.
