This past weekend was a triple crown race at Angels Stadium in Anaheim CA. A triple crown race is made up of three, 10 minute main event races for the 250 and 450 classes. Riders get points for all three races they participate in. After the points from all 3 events have been totaled, the rider with the most points wins the overall triple crown title.
The winner of the first 250 race was Pro Circuit Kawasaki rider, Levi Kitchen. Close behind to fill the 2nd and 3rd positions were R.J. Hampshire and Nate Thrasher. Hampshire was able to come through and grab the win for the second race with Kitchen behind him and Jo Shimoda in 3rd place. Lastly, the final race winner was Nate Thrasher. Shimoda picked up the 2nd place spot and Kitchen finished in 3rd place. The most consistent rider who was able to podium every race was Levi Kitchen which rewarded him with being the winner of the triple crown title. He won this same title and award last year in the 2023 season.
Now, onto 450s. Chase Sexton grabbed the first win of the night. Following close behind was Cooper Webb and Ken Roczen. In the next race, the defending champion, Sexton, did not even place in the top 10. The winner of the second main event was Jason Anderson, Webb came in 2nd place again, and in 3rd place was 450 rookie, Jett Lawrence. In the third and final event of the night, Webb was finally able to move up from his 2 time second place finishes, and he came in 1st place for the last ride. In 2nd place was Eli Tomac, and in 3rd place was the points leader, Aaron Plessinger. The overall winner for the 450 triple crown title was Cooper Webb. Plessinger placed 3rd overall, but was still able to hold on to his title as points leader as well as the red number plate for round 5 of the season.
