A triple crown race consists of 3 main events for each class. The main events alternate between 250s and 450s. To determine the winner, at the end of all main events, the points are collected and added up to reveal the total amount. The rider with the least amount of points is the winner.
The first 450 race began with Ken Roczen (94) getting the holeshot, with Jett Lawrence (18) and Jason Anderson following close behind. Lawrence was able to quickly make a pass on Roczen and gain the lead. Jett held the lead for the remainder of the race, giving him 1 point.
After the gate dropped in the second race, Lawrence got the holeshot, and Roczen was in 2nd and Plessinger in 3rd. Roczen made an early pass on Lawrence, but was not able to hold him off. Lawrence made another quick pass on Roczen taking back the lead and holding that position the rest of the race again. Giving him another single point.
In the final event, Roczen was able to take the holeshot again, but just like before, Jett was very close behind. There was a 2 second gap between the two, and it stayed that way until there were three seconds left on the clock. Jett passed Roczen for the lead one last time and held it for the last 3 minutes of the race, and he got 1 last point.
With Jett Lawrence getting first place each race and collecting only 3 points, he was able to win the over all title of triple crown winner. He was also the second person ever in the history of Supercross to sweep a triple crown race.
