Early Monday morning around 1:28 am, a largo cargo ship crashed into the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore Maryland just 28 minutes after leaving the port. Reporters say the collapse of the bridge looked like a scene from a disaster movie. As of now, we know there are 6 people presumed dead and one person in critical condition.
So far, officials know that the ship had lost power which led it to strike one of the support piers that hold up the structure. This disaster may be the worst bridge collapse since 2007 when a bridge in Minneapolis plunged into the Mississippi river killing 13 people.
We know that the two men’s bodies recovered on Wednesday were identified as Alejandro Hernandez Fuentes just 35 years old, and Dorlian RonialĀ Castillo Cabrera only 26 years old. At the time the crash took place a construction crew was fixing potholes on the bridge. All of 8 people plunged 135 feet into the water and only two were rescued. Authorities have put a hold on searching for the bodies due to extreme weather conditions that would make the search nearly impossible.
