Nickelback’s history dates back to 1995 in Hanna, Alberta, where they got their start playing covers in a band called Village Idiot, a nod to the small-town nature where they played and grew up. The band was formed in the early 1990s as a cover band called the “Village Idiots” by Chad Kroeger, Ryan Peake, Mike Kroeger, and Brandon Kroeger. The band performed covers of songs from Led Zeppelin and Metallica. Nickelback’s first release was a seven-track EP called Hesher in 1996. Considered to be Nickelback’s signature song, “How You Remind Me” reached the top of the US Billboard Hot 100 and was named the number-one most played song on US radio of the 2000s decade by Nielsen Soundscan, being spun over 1.2 million times on US airwaves since its release in 2001 to the end of 2009.
