Dinner in America, by Adam Rehmeier, was produced in 2020 but only published in 2022 in select theatres. The story is based around Patty and Simon, two young aged adults who end up falling in love. Their story comes with a twist and it’s one that’ll for sure leave you speechless.
At the start of the movie we see drastic differences between Patty and Simon, not expecting them to have much in common. Patty is a colorful, quite, and somewhat “slow” girl and Simon is displayed as a messy, loud, druggy man. As the movie plays out its revealed they both share a love for heavy metal music. This is apart of their twist.
The movie includes different scenes where the relationship between the couple develops. The audience gets a understanding of both Patty and Simon’s life/home life. They develop a unique bond that goes against todays social norms. The story is best known for its dark humor, polar opposite characters, and the idea of finding acceptance for who you are.
The movie also includes a song which was made between Patty and Simon. Its called Watermelon and is generified as bubble grunge. Highly recommend listening!
