Social media has made a big impact in our lives today. Not only that but it has affected our generation today. As a teenager in high school, I suffer with a habit of always being on my phone and disconnecting from people. There are major reasons why social media should be discontinued. For example, social media has had the ability to affect people’s mental health. Many studies have proven hat social media has been affecting people with depression, anxiety, loneliness, and lack of social life. By discontinuing social media this would impact many people’s mental health and bring the old days of social life back.
All I hear from the older generations is “I’m glad I had no phone growing up in life.” Although a phone is very beneficial for problem solving and helps in this generations it’s been a distraction. As I was talking to a male substitute in my class, he proceeded to explain to be how he enjoyed not having a phone in his generation. He stated how all I see students do in class when its free time is gone on their phones and scroll. Phones have made students turn “silent”.
As a student, daughter, and friend I can say a phone has affected my life. I can’t do anything without my phone, and I slowly realized this, this year in my Spanish class, talking about being addicted to a phone. I have developed the habit of scrolling on my phone using TikTok, Snapchat, Instagram. Isolating myself from the world. Affecting me to be motivated to get off my phone, affecting when I go to bed because I’m on my phone, affecting m to do chores and more. This has caused a problem to my life because I no longer have the courage to socialize and I happen to lack with it, due to my phone. Therefore, I know discontinuing social media off a phone, lets a kid or any person be less distracted and more motivated to do things off a phone.
