I asked a 10th grader, a student at Righetti about her experience with doing swim for the school. Her name is Tesa Moro and is 15 years old. Tesa has done swim for only 1 year, her freshman year, but still finds it like she’s done it forever. Shes in lane 6, on Junior Varsity. I asked her why she likes it, and she says, because she likes being in the water every day and being with many of her friends. Tesa finds it enjoyable from the fun activities and talks with everyone, and the bus rides to the meets. I asked her to explain what you do in swim meets and she says, “If it’s an away game we start by setting the tents and all of your things up. Then we get to change in the locker room and after the other school warms up, it’s our turn. After that everyone starts swimming and in between your races we cheer our teammates on, eat snacks, and listen to music. Same thing with a home game, but we warm up first rather than the other school.”
I then asked her why she joined swim; she says she joined swim because she needed a change and something to do, and plus her friend asked her to do it with her. Tesa says, “Other people should join swim because it’s all for the fun of it, and it’s new experiences you should try out.” I asked Tesa what other people should first joining expect. Her answer is, “You should expect pushing yourself to the max. Hour practices in the morning and afternoon, and it’s very time consuming. Most of all you should expect making more friends, having fun, and creating bonds with the coaches.” She says that overall, she recommends this sport and loves it.
