Having a hobby:
Having a hobby can mean many things, for example maybe you participate in a hobby because you’re bored and want to kill some time. Or this hobby will benefit you in the long run and are actively putting dedication into it. Maybe you just simply like partaking in that hobby and you don’t really think about it so much. But which of these Hobbies do you partake in? What do you look for in a hobby? That is a question I will attempt to answer here.
Boredom
Let’s be honest, we’ve all been bored before and probably the reason a good amount of people have a hobby in the first place. But what do you choose to do when you’re bored? There are many things you can do when you are bored to cure that boredom, for example, drawing, writing, exercising, maybe playing a sport if you have enough people, and the most popular one nowadays is just going on your phone and scrolling. I too am guilty of this, but scrolling on your phone just does such a good job at killing time doesn’t it?
Various Hobbies
There are many different types of hobbies, for example Hobbies that get you moving like sports, exercise, maybe even just walking. There are also hobbies that hone the mind, like reading, puzzle solving or maybe even learning a new skill like playing the guitar or learning how to draw. A lot of hobbies have their benefits to them, but then I think of recently popular Hobbies and start to realize they are low or no benefits to them.
Killing Time
Good example would be scrolling on your phone, which at first doesn’t seem so bad if it’s at a low amount, however now I’m more than ever it is becoming increasingly obvious that there is no benefits for an activity like this. You earn no skill from scrolling all day on your phone on Tick Tock or Instagram. It’s just killing or wasting time, while other Hobbies like learning to play the guitar, participating in the sport, or even reading are seemingly less and less popular.
Conclusion
If hobbies like learning how to play the guitar, participating in a sport, reading a book, etc.. Provide more benefits than just scrolling on your phone all day on Instagram or tick tock, then why don’t people just not do that? Well, I encourage anyone who was bored enough to read this and for some reason didn’t just choose to scroll on their phone to maybe partake in a hobby that genuinely hones your skills, for your own benefit, instead of killing all this time. If this article helps just 1 person than it would have served its purpose.
