Homecoming is a tradition that’s held in the United States. It may recognize people, high schools and colleges to come together more as usually in late Sept. or early Oct, which welcomes back the people. Usually, its celebrated as a, banquet or dance and often a football game. When celebrated a dance is usually followed after the homecoming football game on their schools home football field. A homecoming queen and homecoming king, gets nominated crowned at most schools the dance, or other as ( a football game, rally or assembly). Homecoming has originated from more college traditions from the early 1900’s. With one first official event attributed and held to the University of Missouri in 1911. The whole concept of homecoming is to welcome new comers( welcome back) and to boost the schools spirit with a football game, which had spread from colleges to high schools after World War ll, when dances became a standard part of a tradition of celebration in the 1940’s and 1950’s.
Then: The earliest beginning of homecoming go back to college alumni football games held in the early 1900’s to bring everyone back home and boost school spirit. Homecoming had a tradition of having a king and queen along with their court come later down the road through the floats of a homecoming parade.
Now: Surrounding this exciting game now in 2000’s are the festivities of homecoming week. Dress days for students throughout the week like school spirit days ( week), etc., and exciting pep rally, followed by the football game against an alumni. Nowadays, the homecoming court is typically selected by the student body or schools nominations.
