Every year November 11, Americans celebrate Veterans Day to honor all the men and women who have served in the U.S. military. It’s a day to thank veterans for their bravery, sacrifice, and dedication to protecting our country. Veterans Day began as Armistice Day, marking the end of World War I in 1918, when the fighting stopped on the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month. In 1954, the name was changed to veterans day to recognize veterans from all wars, not just WWI.
