11. Dark Lane Demo Tapes (2020)
In the midst of 2020, when people were in lockdown Drake came through and provided a brand new album with some long awaited leaks. Pain 1993 was included in this record, but it didn’t live up to peoples expectations. They thought the leak was better. I think the reason people thought so poorly of this album is because people’s expectations were too high. Drake hadn’t released something in a few years and then he releases this, and it just didn’t hit for me.
Favorite Songs: Chicago Freestyle, Pain 1993, Time Flies
10. Scorpion (2018)
If I wrote this ranking about a week ago Scorpion would’ve been dead last. But after another complete listen it’s actually not that bad. Maybe it is a bit overcrowded with 25 songs, but overall they’re all pretty good. It also has some stand out tracks such as “Nice for what” and some underrated gems like “Sandra’s Rose” and “Final Fantasy”. Overall, a good album that has definitely grown on me.
Favorite Songs: Final Fantasy, That’s How You Feel
9. Certified Lover Boy (2021)
Certified Lover Boy is the most recent album from Drake. I actually reviewed this project when it released and I really enjoyed it, so that just goes to show you how good of a discography I think Drake has. It hasn’t really aged as well as most of these on this list though, and that’s why it’s a bit low.
Favorite Songs: Champagne Poetry, 7AM on Bridle Path
8. So Far Gone (2009)
This album is probable little low on this list, but I just don’t think its that good. I don’t really like when Drake is singing and that’s kind of what most of this album is. It’s still good though, just personally isn’t all that for me.
Favorite Songs: Lust for Life, Best I Ever Had, Uptown
7. More Life (2017)
This bloated Drake project is good, but it’s not great. It has some REALLY good songs like “Passionfruit” and “Do Not Disturb”, but it also has some of his weakest like “KMT”. Drake is all over the place with this record, he’s singing, he’s rapping , he’s doing everything on this. It’s more of a playlist than an album I feel.
6. What a Time to Be Alive (2015)
This isn’t a solo Drake album, but I just wanted to include because of how much I love it. Every song on this project is a classic. It has huge hits like “Jumpman” but also mellow songs like “30 for 30 freestyle”.
Favorite Songs: Jersey, 30 for 30 Freestyle, Digital Dash
5. Thank Me Later (2010)
This is technically Drake’s debut album, since “So Far Gone” is an EP. Thank Me Later, at the time, in 2010 was extremely revolutionary. The genre mostly being ran by gangsta rappers like 50 Cent and Drake comes along and raps about self doubt and being vulnerable on tracks such as ” The Resistance” and “Miss Me”. Of course, this album isn’t only Drake on his lovey stuff, this is a hip hop album and he provided, with songs like “Fancy” and “Up All Night.
Favorite Songs: Over, Light Up
4. Views (2016)
For some, Views was an underwhelming and bloated project by Drake. But to me, Views is the best representation of Drake’s style. When I think of Drake, I think of Views. I think of Hotline Bling and One Dance. This project has something for the pure rap fans with “Still here” and the die hard “Marvin’s Room” fans with a new song to cry to with “Feel No Ways”. I love this album and it just brings back so many great memories.
Favorite Songs: Still Here, One Dance, Too Good, Weston Road Flows
3. If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late (2015)
If you like Drake for being a pure rapper then IYRTYTL is your holy grail. Drake raps his most boastful on these minimalistic beats, but also has some heart felt songs like “Jungle and “You & the 6”. I personally think the last 3 songs on this project are one of the best 3 track runs I’ve heard on a rap album.
Favorite Songs: Jungle, Madonna, No Tellin’
2. Nothing Was the Same (2013)
I don’t need to say very much for this project. This is my favorite Drake album, and I think its a perfect listen. The track list is full of great songs and cult classics like ” Started from the Bottom”. This was the hardest to place because I couldn’t decide whether this or Take Care were better, but its clear “Nothing Was The Same” is in his top 2.
Favorite Songs: Pound Cake/ Paris Morton Music 2, From Time, Hold On We’re Going Home
1. Take Care (2011)
“Take Care” is without a doubt, Drake’s masterpiece. Originally planned as a straight R&B album, “Take Care” still retains that hip hop vibe with some emotionally searing wordplay.
Favorite Songs: Headlines, Marvins Room, Look What You’ve Done
