California has thrown a huge curveball and decided to give us powerful storms and intense cold. I know most Californians do not own the proper clothes for this type of weather, how do I know this? I too do not own the right clothes for this weather. I own one thin puffer jacket. So here are three tips on how to stay warm during this cold season.
Tip 1- Layering. Layering is important when dressing for the cold. Put a long sleeve under your hoodie or jacket as a base layer when preparing for the cold. A nice pair of jeans can protect you from the cold. But if you are like one of my friends and get really cold, you can put a pair of leggings under your jeans or sweatpants. Wear a hood to avoid getting drenched by the rain.
Tip 2- Shoes. Here in California it is rare that we have to put on rainboots. Unless you make a winter trek to Yosemite or Big Bear. But it is important to have warm protective shoes for the weather. If you don’t have rainboots, try to put on shoes that won’t get badly wet. Try to put on a pair of sneakers that can provide some leeway for the rain.
Tip 3- Avoid being outside for too long. Most schools in California are outside schools. Usually it is nice enough to be outside for lunch. But if you find yourself outside and cold. Go into a classroom or the cafeteria. This will help reduce the cold and keep you warm for the lunch period.
